HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -  A standoff in Hollywood ended with a man walking out of a motel in handcuffs.

Hollywood Police said Glenn Shelton had barricaded himself in the Budget Inn on U.S. 1 just north of Harding Street.

Investigators said a police officer noticed Shelton walking along the street and thought he matched the description of a wanted person.

Police say that's when Shelton ran into his room at the inn and locked himself inside for hours until he surrendered peacefully.

Investigators said Shelton was wanted for trafficking cocaine, burglary and grand theft.

The police activity prompted a lock-down at South Broward High School Wednesday afternoon.

Students at the high school were told to remain quiet and stay away from windows. It was a tense situation for them and their parents.

During the stand off, Chopper4, over the scene, spotted police officers stationed strategically in the center courtyard of the motel. At one point a woman in a dress was escorted across the courtyard to safety.

Shelton did not have a gun or any weapon. He was taken to Broward County Jail.

U.S. 1 in the area had been closed to traffic until the situation was resolved.
