FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- A man shot up at a Plantation used car business is expected to be okay but investigators are still trying to figure why someone opened fire.

The man was shot multiple times on Tuesday afternoon leaving him in critical condition, but he is now expected to survive.

"Heard gunshots that's it," said David Jeffrey who was in the area at the time.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said the shooter walked in to D & S pre-owned auto dealership on Peters Road just West of 441 and opened fire after a confrontation.

"Don't know if it's a disgruntled customer, is someone trying to hold them up," said Jeffrey.

Investigators said the shooter and victim know each other but they haven't released any details about why the men were at the business and whether they work there or were possibly customers.

"We know that there was obviously some type of connection. He was known somehow. What that connection is still be determined," said Mike Jachles with BSO.

During the shooting, a bullet shattered through a window at the scene where BSO spent hours investigating and waiting for a search warrant late into the night, trying figure out what the men were fighting about before shots were fired.

They also interviewed several witnesses who were at the dealership during the shooting and will look through surveillance video for clues.

At last check, no one was in custody in connection to the shooting.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call Broward Crimestoppers at (954) 493- TIPS.
