TAMARAC (CBSMiami) - Firefighters pulled a man from a burning Tamarac home overnight.

"It was terrible. It was awful," said neighbor Dashiel Green.

Tamarac Fire Rescue Captain Tony Chin said they received a call about the fire at 4711 NW 50th Street around 11:45 p.m. Monday.

Several neighbors who saw the flames bursting through widows and shooting through the roof ran out of their homes, afraid the fire would spread.

"I was hearing big booms so I thought it was my brother so I came to check through the front window and I saw fire coming through the front window so in ran to go wake up my grandma and everybody," said neighbor Jailyn Marsh.

Firefighters from Lauderhill, North Lauderdale and Coral Springs joined Tamarac firefighters in battling the blaze. One man who was trapped inside was rescued.

"The fire was extremely intense and it went through the roof. As we started to knock it down the roof collapsed on our firefighters. We exited the structure and went into a defensive attack and then we got the fire under control," said Chin.

None of the firefighters were injured and the man was taken to an area hospital where he was treated for burns. His condition is unknown.

The homeowner's brother Scott Luong said his brother wasn't home at the time the fire broke out and the man injured is a friend staying with him. They say he's a smoker but they don't know what happened.

"I feel pretty bad but thank God nobody got hurt," said Luong.

The home is a total loss. Fire investigators will try to determine the cause of the fire.
