NORTH LAUDFERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Detectives from the Broward Sheriff's Office are looking for two gunmen who shot up two homes in North Lauderdale early Wednesday morning that had 13 victims living in them.

Neighbors tell CBS4's Peter D'Oench that they heard family members blaming one victim's former boyfriend but BSO says it has no suspects and needs help from the public.

"This was a really violent excessive act," said BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter.

She told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "This wasn't a single shot. Multiple shots were fired at each location. The people inside were of course in fear for their lives. Luckily, no one was injured."

Carter said the first incident happened at 12:33 a.m. on Wednesday at 1810 S.W. 68th Ave. when six shots were fired at the home of David Gray. BSO says Gray was in the home with his girlfriend, Feannie Palmer, and Kenneth Delvalle.

They were not injured.

Gray told D'Oench by telephone he did not want to comment.

A BSO incident report says the shots were fired at a back window at Gray's home.

A mile away and 20 minutes later, BSO says 25 bullets were fired into Feannie Palmer's home at 5920 N.W. 42nd Terrace. Four bullets were also fired into a car parked outside.

BSO says 10 people were in the home including two newborns. No one there was hurt either.

Next door neighbor Grace Shimkus said, "I heard several gunshots. There were four at first. Then it stopped. Then I heard three or four more. I know gunshots like on the Fourth of July everyone goes out and shoots guns.  This is unbelievable," she said. "This was right next door to me. This could have been me."

Neighbor Charlotte Roberts said, "I thought I heard gunfire but I didn't want to believe it. I was scared and felt insecure when I heard the bullets being fired. I was just afraid to go to my door and look outside because I was afraid I might get hit. I mean, 29 bullets."

Roberts said she had lived in the neighborhood since 1961.

"It is just devastating to think that this can happen in the neighborhood you grew up in that someone could think of taking a life," she said.

Neighbor Calvin Roberts said, "It sounded like firecrackers to me. In this neighborhood everyone seems to have firecrackers. I don't like it one bit," he said. "I have been living here for 50 years and this is the first time this has ever come up, anything like this."

BSO is circulating flyers about the incident, noting there is a $3,000 reward in the case.

Anyone with information should call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
