2015 NFL Injury Report: Sims' Concussion Gives Cameron Chance To Shine In Week 2

By Abraham Gutierrez

2015 NFL Week 2 injury reports and game statuses for Sunday's contest between the (1-0) Miami Dolphins and (0-1) Jacksonville Jaguars were made available Friday evening. Based on the information provided, the likelihood that the Fins will improve to 2-0 on the year just increased by at least a couple of notches.

The good news is that Miami will only be without the services of one player when it travels to EverBank Field – compared to four Jags players that have already been ruled out. The bad news is that the Dolphins' absentee will be first-string tight end, Dion Sims, initially leaving the team with Jordan Cameron as the lone wolf at that position.

The third-year man out of Michigan State will be forced to sit out Week 2 after suffering a concussion in the Fins' 17-10 victory at Washington in the opener. The news comes as no surprise, however, as Miami's coaching staff went through preparations for the Jaguars game expecting Sims to be in street clothes on game day.

This is evident by the fact that Joe Philbin & Co. recently called up former Ohio State Buckeye Jake Stoneburner from the practice squad. In the NFL, opportunity seldom knocks on a player's door more than once, which is why the former Green Bay Packer is ready to make a splash in his Dolphins debut.

"I've worked really hard this offseason and training camp to just get to this point," Stoneburner said. "Just being on the roster isn't good enough. I want to be out there on the field, making plays, helping this team win."

Miami's NFL Week 2 injury report dictates that there were three additional players whose injuries prevented them from taking 100 percent of the snaps. Listed as having had limited participation in practice were defensive ends Olivier Vernon (Ankle) and Cameron Wake (Hamstring), along with safety Reshad Jones (Hamstring). Vernon is listed as probable, while Wake and Jones are both listed as questionable against Jacksonville.

For the winless Jaguars, Jacksonville's Week 2 injury report shows that Gus Bradley will need all hands on deck in order to avoid falling into a 0-2 hole to start the year. As stated above, the Jags have ruled out four players for Sunday's game, along with three others whose statuses were not disclosed.

After failing to participate in this week's practices, the following three players have been crossed out against Miami: cornerback Dwayne Gratz (Ankle), defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks (Knee) and defensive end Andre Branch (Knee). Tight end Julius Thomas (Hand), on the other hand, was noted as having had limited participation in practice, but was officially ruled out Friday night. Here's how the rest of the Jaguars' 2015 NFL Week 2 injury report looks like, followed by a recap of the Dolphins' Week 2 IR:
