MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Police detectives and bike patrol officers spent part of the evening handing out flyers at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza Metrorail Station in hopes of generating leads in the murder of a security guard.

The reward leading for information to an arrest in the death of Keith Cox has now been raised.

"The reward has gone up to $5,000 so we're hoping for more leads from the public to help us solve the crime," said Miami-Dade Police Department Det. Jorge Arana.

It was a little more than two weeks ago when Cox, an employee with 50 State Security, was shot at the Metrorail Station located off NW 62nd Street and 27th Avenue.

"He was approached by this unknown subject who shot him in cold blood and proceeded to take his duty belt, which had his issued handgun," said Det. Arana.

Cox, a U.S. Air Force Veteran who was injured in Operation Desert Storm in Iraq, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The 49-year-old father of three died a few days later after being taken off life support.

His family made a heartfelt plea before his death for help in catching whoever's responsible.

"All we have left now is for this person to be put away for what they've done," said Cox's daughter Katanga Gill.

"Somebody knows who these cowards are.  Cowards like to brag and talk" said the victim's brother, Kevin Cox.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477) or visit www.crimestoppersmiami.com and select "Give a Tip." You can also send a text message to 274637. Enter CSMD followed by the tip information and press send.
