FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A wrong way driver caused a deadly crash in Oakland Park early Monday morning, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say that around 5:30 a.m., witnesses spotted a silver Toyota Tundra heading westbound in the eastbound lanes of Oakland Park Boulevard.

The witness told detectives he tried to get the drivers attention but he couldn't.

In the 1900 block, the Tundra, driven by 46-year old Javier Landron, crashed head-on into a Toyota Camry driven by 44-year old Audrey Williams Ives.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue had to cut Ives from the wreck and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Ives, a single mother who would have turned 46-years old on Thursday, was a nursing assistant who was headed to work in Palm Beach County at the time of the crash.

She has an 18-year old son, Rolando Moodie, who just started college.

"I didn't think something like this could happen," Moodie told CBS 4 News.

Ives' friends said she will be deeply missed.

"She has a very jovial personality. She would always light up a room. If you are sad, she'll make you smile. She's just the life of a party," said friend Deen Hinds.

Hinds, a longtime friend, said it's ironic that Ives died in a car crash considering how cautious she was behind the wheel.

"I was driving with her last week and it was drizzling and she wouldn't go over 30 miles an hour," he said.

The loss is especially painful because Ives was about to celebrate her birthday.

"Her birthday is in three days," said Narda Lee, a friend. "We were planning to take her out. Now it's a funeral."

Landron, 46, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

BSO says they believe Landron was impaired. No charges have been filed and BSO says they continue to investigate the crash.
