Sonia and Kenneth McKenzie took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and experienced trouble just before 11 a.m.
Once airborne they told investigators they had an oil pressure drop and sent a distress signal to the airport.

Kristin Patton was fishing close by and says she saw smoke and heard a pop.
“I drove over and went to the fence and shouted to see if everyone was okay, then I saw all the fire rescue trucks,” said Patton.
Sonia McKenzie, 50, is in Broward Health North in good condition.
Kenneth McKenzie, 52, was transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital because of extensive burns to his body. He is in stable condition.MORE NEWS: Coldest Air Of The Season Moves In This Weekend
