MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A security guard shot at a Miami-Dade Metro Rail station has died, according to authorities.

The family of 49-year old Keith Cox told investigators he had been removed from life support early Saturday morning.

Just a day before, his family urged the public to come forward with any information on the gunman who killed him.

The father of three and veteran was shot while working the night shift at the Martin Luther King Metro Rail station on Tuesday.

"The cowards who perpetrated this senseless crime have taken his life," said his brother Kevin Cox.

Police have only said they are looking for a gunman and a getaway driver who fled in a dark car.

While Cox died, he was able to see all his loved ones while at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

"He got to meet his kids. His family was together," said Launica Cox, the victim's daughter. "I really couldn't say that anything else would have made him happier."

As the family grieves, the search for those responsible continues.

"Somebody knows who these cowards are," said Kevin.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
