MIAMI (CBSMiami) –The family of a security guard shot at a Miami-Dade metro rail station is asking for the public’s help to find those responsible.

The family fought back tears as they said 49-year old Keith Cox would not make it. Cox, a father of three and a veteran, is on life support at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

His brother, Kevin Cox, announced Friday, Cox would not survive wounds inflicted as he worked the night shift at the Martin Luther King Metro Rail station on Tuesday.

“The cowards who perpetrated this senseless crime have taken his life.  He’s not going to survive his injuries. His spirit is always going to be with us though,” said Cox.

Police so far have spoke of a lone gunman and a getaway driver in a dark car.

A good man was shot fatality for who knows what.

“When are we going to say enough? When will we watch out for each other? What’s it going to take? How many more deaths,” asked Kevin.

Their dad, father, brother, mortally wounded did get to see all his loved ones in the hospital.

“He got to meet his kids. His family was together,” said Launica Cox, the victim’s daughter. “I really couldn’t say that anything else would have made him happier.”

His daughter, Katanga Gill, flew in from Britain where she lives and now wants only for her father’s killer to be caught.

“All we have left now is for this person to be put away for what they’ve done,” said Gill.

“Somebody knows who these cowards are,” said Kevin.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
