Senator Wants To Put Brakes On Red Light Cameras

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - Senate Transportation Chairman Jeff Brandes is again trying to shut off all red-light cameras in Florida.
On Monday, Brandeson filed a proposalthat would repeal the Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act of 2010, the state's red-light camera law.
"Taxation by citation is not the way that we should do business, as government,'' Brandes said. "What we've seen is that for many cities, it is more about the money than it is about safety."
Brandes put the brakes on similar legislation he filed in 2014 when there weren't enough votes lined up in support. The new measure will be considered during the 2016 legislative session, which starts in January.
