FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Two people and their dogs are safe after fleeing their burning rented home in Wilton Manors early Tuesday morning.

Someone driving by the home at the corner of NE 16th Street and 24th Avenue spotted the fire and called 9-1-1.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said when their crew arrived the garage was fully engulfed in flames and there was heavy damage to the home itself.

Ken Walters, 65, who rents the home, told The Sun-Sentinel that he thinks fire the started in the garage and spread to the kitchen area.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
