MIAMI (CBSMiami) -  A group of crooks smashed into a NE Miami-Dade cellphone store and stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

By Wednesday evening, the store was all boarded up but had reopened.

The store had planned to do a tablet giveaway promotion on Wednesday, but this in not what they had in mind.

The break-in happened around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday at the T-Mobile store in a shopping plaza on 163rd Street at NE 12th Avenue.

Police say a gray Ford with tinted windows barreled through through the store's glass front doors and roll down security barrier.

"The truck backed into the store so front end damage is unlikely," said Miami-Dade police spokeswoman Det. Marjorie Eloi.

Surveillance video captured four people ransacking the store, cutting security cables, breaking into cabinets and later getting away in the truck.

"A witness on scene advised detectives that the grey pick up truck was seen fleeing the area on NE 12th Ave northbound," said Eloi.

The bad guys made off with $12,000 in phones, iPads and tablets.

Due to the large amount of items stolen, detectives are hoping they will be able to trace one or more of them to someone who is using them who will then, in turn, lead them to the thieves.
