Arrest Made In Vandalized Humane Society Trucks

NORTH MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) --  North Miami Beach arrested a man accused of vandalizing and stealing items from Humane Society trucks.

Edwin Angel Morales, who was already in custody for allegedly stealing car batteries, admitted to detectives that he damaged the Humane Society vehicles and stole the batteries in the trucks to help pay bills, police said.

Morales' fingerprints were found to be under the hood of one of the Humane Society vehicles.

Investigators also determined that he had been selling multiple car batteries over the last three months to a scrap yard in Opa-Locka.

Police said, on August 5th, nine Humane Society vehicles located at 16101 West Dixie Highway had been tampered with and stolen from prompting an investigation.

Video footage gathered from surrounding businesses as well as an anonymous Crimstoppers tip led them to Morales at the Turner G. Knight Correctional Facility.

Executive Director of the Humane Society, Laurie Hoffman, was pleased to hear of the arrest.
