LARGO (AP) — A pedestrian is recovering after being hit by a sheriff's patrol car while crossing the street in southwest Florida.
Pinellas County Sheriff's officials say 39-year-old Nora J. Reitzel stepped out of a driveway Saturday night and was attempting to cross the street.
Deputy Edward Feidt hit the brakes to avoid her, but ended up hitting her on front passenger side of the cruiser.
Reitzel was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, including an injury to her pelvis. The 22-year-old deputy was not injured.
Deputies say alcohol on the part of the pedestrian appears to be a factor in the crash.
