MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Due to popular demand, Miami-Dade's parks department has extended "Dog Beach Days" at Haulover Beach Park to seven days a week through the Labor Day Weekend.

The site is located on the south end of the park between Lifeguard Towers #2 and #3 which is directly across from the park's 3.3-acre dog park. Dog and their owners can enjoy the beach from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

"We have a large community of dog owners who use our Parks' dog recreation areas," said Miami-Dade Commissioner Sally Heyman. "The success of Dog Beach Days allows us to extend their summertime fun to seven days a week through Labor Day, September 7."

After September 7, the dog beach area will resume its regular operating schedule of 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

"I encourage Haulover Park Beach-goers to take the family dog out to these specially added beach days," said Miami-Dade Parks Director Jack Kardys. "Running and playing in the sand and surf is another great way for both people and their dogs to bond and be active outdoors."

Dog owners are reminded, though the beach recreation area for dogs has its own showers and drinking fountain, they should bring along plenty of water to keep their pets hydrated.
