5 NFL Preseason Power Rankings -- Where The Miami Dolphins Stand

The Miami Dolphins -- at least on paper -- appear to be in decent position to at least push the New England Patriots for AFC East supremacy.

Their defensive line is ferocious, headlined by the guard-shredding Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake. The offense is revamped around the improved Ryan Tannehill, who decided to mount a laser to his right arm in advance of training camp. There is hope!

Not so fast, says a variety of preseason NFL Power Rankings.

NFL.com (Elliot Harrison)

Dolphins Ranking: 16th

"Coming around on the Dolphins, especially with Buffalo experiencing the kinds of quarterback woes that inevitably lead to coaching woes. Confidence in Joe Philbin, whose tenure has delivered mediocrity in spades thus far, is a central issue in Miami. That said, Ryan Tannehill and the suddenly spry receiver corps give this team the edge over the Bills and Jets -- and they could help close the gap in the AFC East. (Of course, they must beat the Pats in Miami.)"

Bleacher Report (Nick Selbe)

Dolphins Ranking: 14th

"Defensively, the Dolphins were 12th in total defense, and Suh will only make them better. After coming close last season, Miami could break through and earn a playoff berth next year."

CBS Sports (Pete Prisco)

Dolphins Ranking: 14th

"Adding Ndamukong Suh to the defense will pay off in a big way. And I think Ryan Tannehill will continue to grow. They are second best in the AFC East."

Yahoo Sports (Frank Schwab)

Dolphins Ranking: 9th

"Reports say Ndamukong Suh is playing very well in camp. That's not a surprise, but nice to hear his motor is still running hot after collecting a nine-figure contract."

AP Pro32

Dolphins Ranking: 14th

---

The Dolphins average a ranking of 13.4 across the five, meaning the consensus says they're a borderline playoff team. Still, I have faith in Schwab of Yahoo Sports, who has them ninth.
