PANAMA CITY (CBSMiami/AP) — Two men have been arrested by Florida Panhandle authorities for allegedly shooting and wounding a wildlife officer.

The Bay County Sheriff's Office reports in a news release that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer was on his boat Friday afternoon when he was shot. The two suspects then stole the boat but beached it a short time later in Panama City and fled.

Authorities announced within hours of the shooting that the men had been arrested.

The FWC officer was taken to a nearby hospital. He was listed in stable condition.

The sheriff's office didn't immediately name the suspects or what charges they might be facing.
