Coyle: We Call LB Jeff Luc The 'Earth Shaker'

560-WQAM

Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle shares a fun nickname for Jeff Luc, a physically imposing 6-foot-1, 256-pound specimen who was 2010's No. 1 ranked inside linebacker recruit.

"We call him the 'Earth Shaker," Coyle said at Training Camp. "It goes back to an old Cool Hand Luke movie. Actually, it was a misnomer. It was supposed to be the World Shaker, but we thought it was Earth Shaker but now he's the Earth Shaker and the reason being - he's a powerful man. He's 255 pounds-plus and he's got about 10 percent body fat. So when he hits you, it's like running into one of these walls over here. He's a strong, physical guy. So he adds that dimension, so we're pleased with that. But overall, I think all of our linebackers are developing that downhill mentality that we have to have. We're on course right there."

Luc attended Florida State for two seasons before transferring to Cincinnati, where he tallied 6.5 sacks last season. He signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent.
