MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating a hit and run that claimed the life of a skateboarder Monday night.

According to detectives, a man in his 20’s was skateboarding along NW 12th Avenue.

A late model blue Hyundai Sonata was traveling northbound on NW 18th Avenue when the driver struck the skateboarder, police said.

Authorities said the vehicle, which suffered extensive front-end damage and lost its driver’s side mirror, continued to flee northbound.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene where they pronounced the victim dead.
