FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – After getting brushed aside by Democratic Party leaders during her bid for governor last year, former state Sen. Nan Rich has received the support of U.S. Senate candidate Patrick Murphy as she tries to return to elective office.

Murphy, a congressman who has the support of many state and national Democratic leaders in his Senate bid, announced Thursday that he is supporting Rich in her race for a Broward County Commission seat.

Rich ran an underdog gubernatorial campaign last year and was largely ignored by party leaders, who supported Charlie Crist. The treatment of Rich angered many of her supporters. Crist, a former Republican governor, easily defeated Rich in the Democratic primary but then lost to GOP Gov. Rick Scott in the general election.
