MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- One person is dead, two others hospitalized after gunfire erupted at a Miami Gardens adult club.

Family members told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that the shooting claimed the life of 34-year-old David Hilbert who had worked as a security guard at night at the club for more than two years and was married and had at least one child.

"He just lost his life for no reason," said the security guard's cousin, Roberta Hilbert. "It happened over stupid stuff."

She told D'Oench "Violence needs to stop. People need to stop shooting people for no reason. It is just time for people to stop being mean. It's a time that we as a family all need to come together regardless of who got killed and stop fighting against each other."

Just after 4 a.m. police received word of the shooting at the Mint Lounge at NW 187th Street and 27th Avenue.

"There was an argument outside of the establishment which led to multiple shots being fired," said Det. Michael Wright.

Two men who were shot were taken to Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, according to police. No word on their conditions.

Chopper4 was over the club and spotted a tarp-covered body in between two cars in the club's parking lot. Police were searching the area around it with flashlights. Shell casings and evidence markers dotted the street in front of the lounge which is across from the new city police headquarters and City Hall.

Family members say Hilbert was passionate about his job as a security guard.

"He was a fun type family man. He was just a person that believed in working, just a hard working person," said Roberta Hilbert.

"It's sad. They need to put the guns down and stop shooting. They're killing innocent people," said Cassandra Hilbert.

It's not clear whether Hilbert was involved in the fight or just trying to break it up. Cassandra Hilbert said she doesn't believe he would be involved in the fight.

"Always joking around, never harmed nobody. Even though his job was security, he never roughed anyone up," said Cassandra Hilbert.

Mint Lounge has had trouble in the past.

In March 2015, an argument that started at the club led to a man being shot dead later in the night.

In 2010, one man was killed, two others injured when an argument led to gunfire.

"If you know anything, please say something. If you saw someone in the club or you know anything, please say something."

Cassandra Hilbert said, "If you know something, please come forward. He didn't deserve it."

Hilbert's great aunt, Lannie Hilbert, said, "This is very bad. If anyone knows anything, they should come forward. This was not right."

Miami Gardens Police said they are looking at surveillance tape to see if that can help them with this case.

They say they believe they have everyone who was involved in the fight in custody but they have not said if any charges have been filed.

Police said it's not clear what prompted the argument that lead to the shooting.
