Miami (CBSMiami) -- The Late Late Show host James Corden celebrated his 50th show last week and appeared to shed actual tears as he expressed his deepest gratitude for those involved.

His extreme popularity could be due to the fact that he has great chemistry with his team and his guests. He says it allows for the perfect mix of timing and improvisation.

"We just want the audience to go, 'I don't know what they'll do tonight'", Corden told CBS4's Irika Sargent during a recent one-on-one interview.

Corden is just a few months into his new job as the host of the show but what he's doing seems to be working out very well.

He's pulling in big name celebrities and convincing many of them to do the strangest and funniest things.

But some of the best banter happens between Corden and his band leader Reggie Watts.

"Yeah, it's a trip," described Watts.

"He's just so wildly talented and I'm just such a fan of his and I enjoy watching him so much," Corden said of his band leader. "I hope that comes through to people at home."

Reggie seems to enjoy it all.

"It's fun to kind of loosen up and get comfortable with the structure of the show," said Watts. "To kind of allow ourselves to be who we are and know that it's okay."

Another favorite for so many, evidenced by the massive YouTube traffic it generates, is Corden's Carpool Karaoke.

"I think it's already had 35 million views on YouTube which is nuts for a show that's just started," said Corden who has done the hilarious bit with some big name singers.

So how did he come up with Carpool Karaoke?

"We did a thing where it was me and George Michael singing in a car as part of a sketch," Corden explained.

Those first notes he sang in England were for a sketch for the Comic Relief Charity Fundraiser in 2011. It was such a huge hit he decided to bring it back for The Late Late Show. He started with Mariah Carey, and then came Jennifer Hudson and Justin Bieber. Most recently, it was Rod Stewart.

When told he appeared to be holding his own with Justin Bieber, he replied, "I don't know about that but it was certainly fun. They are very, very gracious people."

Even with this fast success, Corden seems humble and even a little surprised by it all and grateful for every viewer willing to watch him at work.

"I'm just enjoying it. It just feels like such a privilege," he said. "Thank you for coming all the way from Miami. I can't tell you what it means. Thank you."

The Late Late Show airs every weeknight at 12:37 a.m. on CBS4.
