DELRAY BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A Delray Beach man who left a pit bull outdoors to die after starving it has been found guilty of animal cruelty.

Prosecutor Dave Aronberg says Herring starved his dog, Bella, for weeks and then left her outside. In June 2014, animal county control officers rescued Bella, who they say weighed 23 pounds and couldn’t stand or walk.

During the trial, Dr. Stephanie Poole said that the dog’s emaciated condition had resulted from a lack of food, not the hookworms.
