Baby Dies After Being Left Inside Car

LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) -- A family is mourning the loss of an 11-month-old child who investigators believe was accidentally left in a vehicle unattended for at least an hour.

The car was parked at a Lauderhill apartment complex on the 3100 block of NW 19th Street.

"The family is very, very upset.  The entire family.  The children, the parents.  But they are cooperating with us and at this point it looks like it's going to be a very, very tragic accident," said Lt. Gregory Solowsky with the Lauderhill Police Dept.

Solowsky explained, "A family consisting of two adult and five children ranging from the ages of 11 months old all the way to 14 years of age, were in the process of returning home from the local grocery store and were unloading groceries into the house."

According to police, after the family finished unloading groceries, at least an hour had gone by before realizing the 11-month-old was inside this Blue Explorer.

"When we arrived here the family members, the mother and the father were still in the act of administering CPR themselves.  You could clearly see they were very distraught over the fact that the child was unresponsive at that point," said Solowsky. "It's a tragedy."

Family members arrived at the apartment complex to try to find out what was going on.

"They told us to wait till somebody call us," said

The child. who was rushed to Plantation General was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police are now in the process of putting together a timeline of the tragic event.

"We are in the process of interviewing all family members as well as all the neighbors inside the apartment complex and piecing together specific timelines," said Solowsky.

Police said at this point it's too early to determine whether charges will be filed.
