FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Fort Lauderdale woman convicted of murdering her multimillionaire boyfriend will serve 25 years in prison.

Catherine Pileggi’s sentence was handed down in a South Florida courtroom Tuesday.

Pileggi was found guilty of second-degree murder last November.

Pileggi confessed to stabbing and beating 70-year-old Ronald Vinci with a hammer at his mansion in 2011.

Pileggi’s attorneys claimed she suffered from battered spouse syndrome and feared for her life.

She insisted everything she did was in self-defense.
