More Travelers Expected To Hit The Road For Independence Day

MIAMI (CBSMiami/NSF) - Independence Day travelers might want to load extra time into their holiday plans.
AAA Auto Club expects this to be the busiest Fourth of July travel week in the U.S. since 2007, with nearly 42 million Americans journeying at least 50 miles from home.
In Florida, more than two million people are projected to hit the road for an extended trip over the holiday.
Travelers are more confident about their finances this year and are willing to spend more of their disposable income, AAA South Field Manager W.D. Williams said.
The savings could help defray higher costs of hotel rates and airfares, which have risen six percent over the past year, according to AAA.
And while the cost of gas has fluctuated over the past year, pump prices are down compared to last summer.
"Last year, they were about $3.60. This year they are about $2.70 a gallon," Williams said. "That saves motorists about $15 every tank full.
