MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Beach police are helping raise money for Dwayne Mitchell – a high school senior currently in a coma.

Tests have revealed a large amount of swelling to Dwayne’s brain. In addition to the viral infection, Dwayne also has a heart disease.

Dwayne’s mother is an officer with Miami Beach police.
“He’s in a coma right now and he’s been fighting for his life… slowly showing signs of improvement,” said Shantell Mitchell.
