MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Marlins pitching ace Jose Fernandez is getting closer and closer to returning from Tommy John surgery.

On Wednesday Fernandez had his latest rehab start and needless to say, it went pretty well.

Fernandez struck out ten batters in 4.2 innings with the Marlins Single-A ballclub.  The only run he gave up came on a solo home run.

If things continue to go well, Fernandez is expected to make two more rehab starts on June 22 and June 27.

The Marlins have slated Fernandez to return on July 2 against the San Francisco Giants at Marlins Park.

In other news, the Marlins placed third baseman Martin Prado on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 15 with a right shoulder sprain.

The contract of catcher Jhonatan Solano has been selected from Miami's Triple-A team in New Orleans.  Solano has played seven games for the Marlins this season and has a .050 batting average in 21 plate appearances.
