HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) - Neighbors in a quaint old-Florida neighborhood just blocks from Hollywood Beach are still talking about a body found a backyard pool Tuesday afternoon.

Police confirmed Wednesday afternoon the victim's identity as 55-year-old Greg Platzer.

According to police, detectives responded to the scene and have been conducting a death investigation, which has not been ruled a homicide.

Detectives were seen carrying out several evidence bags and also searched the SUV in his driveway.

Hollwood Fire Rescue showed up as well Wednesday going into the backyard carrying a brush and some type of spray bottle. Investigators are being very tight-lipped about what happened at the home in the 1300 block of Van Buren Steet.

"I saw the body in the pool. He appeared to, maybe, have a heart attack or something," said one man who did not wish to be identified in this report.

He said he was shocked when he looked over the fence and saw a body floating in the pool.

Homeowner records show the property belongs to Gregory Platzer. The neighbor said he believed it was Platzer's body that he saw in the pool.

Leslie Young, a friend of Platzer's, said he's a "very sweet, sweet family, nice guy. Very beautiful people. It's a horrible tragedy--if it is indeed him."

Police were called to the home after a real estate agent found the body around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Lori Tofexis lives next door.

"I'm here but I didn't see anything," said Tofexis.

Platzer is in the marine industry. Co-workers say they have not seen Platzer in his Ft. Lauderdale office since Friday. They said he was about to move to Massachusetts next month to be closer to family.

Friends say the only problem Platzer spoke about lately was with a homeless man who was getting into his backyard.

Dee, who lives nearby and will be moving soon as well, says there are a lot of homeless people roaming the neighborhood, which is just ease of US-1.

"Just a lot of transients from the beach coming up to young circle and a lot of wanderers, people wandering around and so forth and so on, so I'll be anxious to see what really happened," said Dee.
