Burglar Swipes Thousands In Electronics From Software Company

DORAL (CBSMiami) – A man was captured on surveillance breaking into a software company, by way of a screwdriver, and got away with thousands in electronics.

The man seemingly knew exactly what he was doing when he broke into the high-tech office of the Magaya Corporation in Doral on a Sunday morning.

Just three weeks after, the owner of the company, Gabriel Ruz, bought nearly a dozen pricey Surface Pro computers for his software company, a man, donning winter clothing as a form of identity protection, made a visit.

"He wasn't in a hurry. He knew what he was doing. He didn't target any other office here, just ours and both of our offices," Ruz told CBS4's Natalia Zea.

The man meandered through the office taking laptops off desks, sticking them into his backpack and anywhere else he could.

"Actually when he got across the way he must have run out of space because you can see him putting it in his jeans and then covering it up with his sweatshirt," Ruz said.

Then as casually as the burglar sauntered in, he walks out with $15,000 worth of equipment. But Ruz says the monetary loss is not the worst part about the burglary.

"The money is nothing compared to the amount of work we've lost and the time," he said. "It's also very scary. We had an employee here an hour later. If he would've run into the employee who knows what could have happened?"

Now Ruz is going even more high-tech in his security, and he also has a message for the burglar, who he believes may have been someone on the inside of his workplace.

"We're tracking the computers. We know the IP addresses where some of them are already. We have serial numbers because we are a software company, a computer company. Make one stupid move and we're going to catch you," he said.

Anyone that recognizes the burglar is asked to contact the Doral Police Department at (305) 593-6699.

Ruz is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest for the burglary.
