HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami/AP) — In his bid to replace Republican Sen. Marco Rubio,  Congressman Patrick Murphy promised not to repeat a mistake made by the Florida Democratic Party last year.

Murphy is the only prominent Democrat now in the race to replace Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, and in meeting after meeting Saturday at a major party fundraising event he promised to campaign in every county.

That comes a day after the state party released a report that largely blamed 2014 election losses on ignoring north Florida and rural central Florida.

Murphy is a former Republican who is positioning himself as a centrist. That helps in the general election, but he could face a primary challenge from liberal Congressman Alan Grayson.

Grayson wasn't at the event, but he's considering entering the Senate race.

Rubio is running for president instead of seeking a second term.
