MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The City of Miami Police Department is searching for an Ohio fugitive who could be linked to a motel murder.

Authorities aren't sure what 30-year-old Michael Douglas Evans was doing in South Florida with his family.

What is known is that he is a fugitive on the run. Investigators added his wife, 34-year-old Kristy Evans, and his daughter, 7-year-old Jala Barnett, were listed as missing and endangered on May 7th by authorities in Ohio – and could be in danger.

The three were staying at the Sunshine Inn Motel off the 4800 block of West Flagler Street.

On Saturday, police received a call at around 11 p.m. of an unresponsive man at the motel.

"As the investigation progressed, it was determined that the male that was found inside of the motel room was, in fact, killed," said Miami Police Lt. Carlos Castellanos.

Detectives identified the victim as 46-year-old Joseph Everett Moniz.

One woman who lives nearby described a bloody scene inside.

"A person was found, naked. There was blood in the room," said Dayanelis Vazquez in Spanish.

"At this point we're seeking to speak with them to see what if anything they may know about what took place at this location," said Castellanos.

Police are also looking for a stolen 2005 blue Audi A4 convertible with FL license tag BDK6156.

According to a publication in Ohio, Michael Douglas Evans was on house arrest while awaiting trial and Ohio authorities there are looking for him, as well.
