MIAMI (CBSMiami) – An 18-year-old woman, allegedly stabbed by her mother during an altercation Sunday, remains in the hospital Monday.

Sheila Barbara Sanchez Rodriguez is at Jackson Memorial Hospital and is listed in stable condition recovering from her wounds, police said Monday.

The victim's mother, 47-year-old Odalys Rodriguez, was taken into custody following the incident.

Miami Police Officer Kenia Fallat said Sunday that the call came in from a mother, saying that her daughter had been stabbed.

The call led police to a home at NW 2nd St. and 60th Ave. As it turns out, investigators determined it was the mother who had stabbed her daughter, police said.

"Initially it started as an argument. Apparently, mom was upset at the daughter because of certain things that she was doing wrong and it escalated into a major altercation where mom grabbed a knife and consequently stabbed the daughter," said Fallat.

Neighbors said Rodriguez was frantically asking for help.

"When she come out, she say my daughter is very, very bad. Please help me and call me the police and come the rescue and everybody," said neighbor Claudia Alvarez.

People who identified themselves as family members, but did not want to speak on camera, were interviewed by police.

"The knife was recovered by officers and the daughter was immediately transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital where she is currently undergoing surgery. It appears that she's going to recover and come out of this just fine," said Fallat.

Rodriguez was arrested and is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
