MIAMI (CBSMiami) — An early Saturday morning robbery  prompted a high speed getaway through the streets of southwest Miami-Dade that ended in a crash.

Miami-Dade Police said it started when a man was getting gasoline just before 5 a.m. with his wife and 15-year old daughter in the car at a station located at S.W. 216th  Street U.S. 1.

That’s when two armed men walked up to him. An altercation ensued between the man and the alleged robbers. At one point, police said one of the robbers stabbed the man.

His wife and daughter then jumped out of the car and the robbers took off in the car.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews later rushed the man to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Meantime, police set out to search for the armed carjackers and released a “Be On The Look Out” or BOLO  notice.

Officers later spotted the stolen car in the area of S.W. 250th Street and 127th Avenue.

Authorities said the men spotted an officer’s marked car and used the stolen car to sideswipe the officer and sped off.

During the getaway, police said the carjackers accelerated to a high rate of speed, but lost control of the stolen car and hit a pole at a bus way near SW 232nd Street and U.S. 1.

The two men were airlifted to Kendall Regional Trauma Center where they are both listed as being in critical condition.

The officer nor the victim’s family were injured during the incident.
