Car Backs Into Lauderhill Home

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A rough start to the day for a driver in Lauderhill.

Tamara Pierre was pretty shaken up after she backed out of her drive way, across the street, into the neighbor's yard and right into the bedroom.

"I put it in reverse and it just go. I tried to stop it and I couldn't," said Pierre.

Lauderhill Fire tweeted out a picture of her car which was five to eight feet into a home at 4930 NW 16th Court.

The homeowner, Chimere Collie, was there when the car came crashing through. Her roommate Noel was in the front bedroom.

"I'm like, 'Oh my God, Noel is in that room in the bed asleep," said Collie who rushed to check on her roommate.

"I look through the hole and I see nothing but tail lights and dust and just straight smoke and the car was still like, it sounded like it was still accelerating, like something was still mashing the gas."

Noel, however, was not sleeping where he normally does. He was on a mattress on the floor on the opposite side of the room.

"He heard the crash and woke up to see the bumper of a vehicle next to his head," said Lauderhill police Major Rick Rocco.

Pierre is still trying to figure out what caused her car to plow into the house. She believes it was a problem with the brakes.

And the story doesn't end there. In a strange twist, Pierre said in all the commotion, someone walked up to the car, reached inside and snatched her purse. The person got away with about $200 in cash and several credit cards which they used.

"Two hundred and ninety dollars from her debit card, Bank of America $76 and $66 at a gas station in Oakland Park, that's from her Capitol One credit card, she just checked online," said Tamara's sister Martine.

Neither Pierre nor the man inside the house was seriously hurt.

Police do not anticipate filing any charges right now, they're checking to figure out if this was a mechanical problem or operator error.
