MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Miami-native, as it turns out, is one of the reasons Beyoncé wakes up looking flawless.
Marcos Borges has been the superstar’s trainer for the past 10 years. His new book, The 22-Day Revolution, shares a similar name with his new meal delivery service, 22-Days Nutrition.
Beyoncé partnered with Borges to create the vegan line of organic meals that are gluten, soy and dairy-free and delivered right to your doorstep.
The idea came after the two did the nutrition challenge in 2013—which is rooted in the idea that it takes 21-days to make or break habits.
“If you adopted a healthy habit over the course of 21 days, on the 22nd day you’d be armed with the tools to live a healthier life and that’s what it’s all about,” Borges said.
If consumers are not interested in the meal delivery service, Borges’ book has a number of recipes you can quickly make at home—with recipes like vegan picadillo, made with crushed up walnuts instead of meat.
“If I put that on a flour tortilla you would swear to God it was real taco meat,” said Borges.
Now, you may be thinking, Beyoncé and Jay-Z of course have the money to spend on healthy food, but Borges says the lifestyle is not only waistline-friendly, but also easy on the pocketbook.
“The reality is it’s less expensive than a meat based diet…because when you get to the check out line your most expensive food is what. Your meats, fish, your chicken. Not your lettuce not your tomatoes,” said Borges.
Borges says it’s more the lifestyle is not only a financial and superficial benefit.
“You sleep better. Your skin is better. Your mood is better. You have energy throughout the day.”
