MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) - The theft of a safe containing thousand of dollars in valuables from a popular South Florida entertainer may be part of a much larger crime wave.

Last weekend Shahzad Nawaz, known to his fans as Sony Music recording artist Prince Malik, reported that someone had broken into an apartment at 23rd Street and Collins Avenue, where he lives part time, and stole a safe containing more than $400-thousand in valuables.

"I look down and see my bullets and I said oh my safe is gone," said Malik.

Items stolen include: a revolver, $20,000 in cash, a $300,000 diamond ring, a $100,000 ring, $6,000 worth of chains, a $20,000 Rolex, and a $32,000 diamond earring.

"Money's ok but there are certain things they can't replace," said Malik.

Prince Malik said the stones in the jewelry were handed down through generations in his family and has sentimental value.

Miami Beach Police said shortly before the safe was stolen, Prince Malik brought back three Russian women who he met at Mokai Lounge earlier to his apartment. They came in for about 15 minutes but police did not say if they may be connected to the crime.

CBS4's Cynthia Demos asked Malik's investigator David Bolton about this.

"All the options are open but my client said they didn't know the safe was here. They never went into his bedroom," said Bolton.

Miami Beach Police are trying to determine if the theft was the work of a group of thieves believed to be responsible for about a dozen burglaries in Fort Lauderdale, Bay Harbor Islands and Hillsborough Beach last month.  Several of the crimes and suspects were caught on surveillance video.

Bolton said he thinks this is the case.

"It meets some of the criteria," said Bolton.

Prince Malik says he just wants his sentimental items back and he's willing to pay.

"They were not spider mam for sure they will get caught," said Malik.

Nawaz has offered a $50,000.00 reward for the arrest of the individuals involved and the return of his property, or a $25,000.00 "no questions asked" reward for information that leads to the arrest of the individual(s) involved. He can be reached through Bolton at (305) 447-0888.
