ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) — A man killed after falling from an Orlando airport tram was not authorized to be on board.
The airport's Executive Director Phil Brown told the Orlando Sentinel the victim was a friend of a maintenance-crew member doing a routine pre-dawn run of the tram.
The victim, who was operating the tram manually, was ejected through the windshield when it made an unexpected stop. He fell to the ground more than a dozen feet below and died after being taken to a hospital.
Brown said only employees of Bombardier Transportation, the contractor that operates the tram system, were supposed to be on board.
Instead, the two-person crew allowed two friends to climb on board.
