Dr. Salomon Melgen, 60, is scheduled to appear Friday before a federal judge in West Palm Beach to determine whether he should remain jailed three weeks after being arrested in a separate case of Medicare fraud.READ MORE: Glenneisha Darkins Perseveres During Art Week Despite Challenges
Prosecutors have argued that Dr. Melgen, an ophthalmologist, is a flight risk. Melgen has pleaded not guilty in the 76-count fraud case, in which he’s accused of falsely diagnosing patients with serious eye conditions that allowed him to then perform unnecessary and costly procedures.
