MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Miami family is thankful no one was injured when a large tree fell on their home Saturday.

Carmen Montoya was sitting in the living room along with three children, including her 6-month-old grandson Manuel, when suddenly she heard a crash.

Through a translator, she explained, "I had just fed the baby and was putting him to sleep and my daughter was outside when I heard the loud bang. I got up grabbed the baby and ran outside."

At first she didn't realize what was going on.

She said she thought it might have been a plane crash, but when she got out the door she saw the huge tree that had crashed through a fence and onto the house.

The tree caused parts of the ceiling to collapse.

"In my head I thought I almost lost my grandson. It would have killed us both because we were sitting there," Montoya told CBS4's Maggie Newland.

In addition to the 6-month-old baby, there were two 3 year olds inside the home.

Although there was some damage, they all managed to get out safely.

"Fortunately I protected my grandson and I had the instinct to save us and nothing happened to us," said Montoya.

It's not clear what caused the tree to fall, though the family says there were some storms earlier in the day.
