HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) - A deadly shooting in Hollywood may be related to the discovery of a woman's body.

Police said officers were sent to an apartment in the 2700 block of Taft Street to perform a welfare check just after 5 a.m.

"Upon arrival officers discovered a woman to be deceased inside an apartment, two minor children were found to be safe, sleeping and unharmed. They were turned over to family members," said police spokeswoman Meredith Elrich.

Police said they received word that a person they wanted to question as part of the investigation was heading to the 2600 block of Adams Street.

Around 8:45 a.m., the man they were looking for arrived his vehicle.

"They made contact with him. He stopped his vehicle, he fled out of the vehicle and ended up taking his own life," said Elrich.

"The next thing you know is, this red Explorer comes zooming down the street, turns really fast and the cop backs up, turns around and goes after it like in a chase," said Leon Gagliardi who lives on the block. "The about two minutes later you hear all these cop cars coming out and, oh my God, you heard the screaming going on. As I was looking down there, I started walking down this way and there were about three or four cop cars that were here and the next thing you know there's like a 'Pop' really loud."

Police have not released the names of either of the dead.
