MIAMI (CBSMiami) – One of the largest illegal slaughterhouses found in South Florida was torn down.

A five month investigation revealed that animals were being starved and slaughtered in vicious ways at the West Miami-Dade slaughterhouse.

Authorities recovered over 3,000 animals from the property back in March.

Crews were seen demolishing structures and removing debris from the property.

"The bulldozers are coming in for the property owners and they're clearing the sight. All the structures are coming down. The fencing, the pens for the animals, the butcher area, the torture chamber for the animals that have been here for a long, long time," said Richard Couto with the Animal Recovery Mission,

Two men were arrested and are facing animal cruelty charges in connection to the case.
