Push For Resort Casinos In Florida Dies Again In Legislature

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — A bill that would have allowed two massive casinos in Broward and Miami-Dade counties is dead this legislative session.
A top House Republican initially filed the bill for the resort casinos.
But Rep. Dana Young filed a new version of her bill on Tuesday. The revamped bill (HB 1233) drops the casino proposal.
Young said that her new bill is the result of conversations with both Republican and Democratic legislators. She called it a "consensus" bill.
The Senate has not considered any major gambling bills this year. Instead, the Senate may pass a bill that extends an existing agreement with the Seminole Tribe of Florida for a year. That would let the tribe keep blackjack at its casinos.
Young's bill does not address the Seminoles.
