An Ocala police spokeswoman said in an email that Officer Jared Forsyth was participating in firearms training at the Lowell Correctional Institution shooting range Monday afternoon when the accident occurred.
Police say Forsyth was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where he died from his wounds several hours later.READ MORE: Why Do Some Missing Person Cases Get More Attention Than Others?
Details about the shooting weren’t immediately released. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was called to investigate.
