Stories focused on local homeless shelters that are in need of clothing, household goods, and fitness programs to help their residents prepare for new jobs, new homes and cope with their current situation.
Additionally, it featured a feeding program for students in Miami-Dade and Broward County Schools who don’t have enough to eat on the weekends. These students are provided a backpack filled with food for the weekends, enough for breakfast, lunch and dinner for Friday night through Sunday night. These backpacks are filled with donated food, packed by volunteers from various agencies and delivered each week to the schools for distribution.

Through our community partner Children’s Service Council of Broward County of Florida, 211, and Hispanic Unity of Florida, we shared Tax Prep assistance for families earning less than $53,000. Families who qualify are eligible for free tax preparation by certified IRS Tax prep reps in both Miami-Dade and Broward Counties and only need to call to see if they qualify.
Lastly, there was the story of a needy family who was assisted through our Adopt A Family program in 2013. After meeting them we learned that they were in need of new roof and internal repairs caused by the damaged roof. The single mother, who is on disability after a severe back injury, was able to take care of the repairs herself. After reaching out to Neighbors 4 Neighbors for help, several local companies came to the rescue and not only repaired the roof and damage to the interior, but painted her home, landscaped, fixed the fence and even freshened up her lawn furniture with a fresh coat of paint, making her house a home again.
