Notaro was diagnosed with stage 2 bi-lateral breast cancer in July 2012 and underwent a double mastectomy shortly after. Notaro’s comedic work speaks on this and it’s nice to see her show a lighter side to this painful part of her life.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi and raised in the suburbs of Houston, Texas, Notaro described herself as a tomboy who started smoking at age nine. That sounds pretty rough, but not all that unexpected when she says that her friends called her Huckleberry Tig at one point in her life.
