A hearing set for Saturday, meant to determine who should care for the children, was rescheduled for Monday due to the dead child’s father, Nelson Osceola, not having an attorney present, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
As he left the courthouse, Osceola said, “I just want to get this court hearing over with and that’s it for right now.”
Meantime, the children are staying with an aunt.
The day before, Hollywood Police said they had discovered the dead body of 3-year old Ahizya Osceola hidden inside his home in an “obscure section not readily visible to the average person.”READ MORE: Double Shooting Investigated In NW Miami
Police have not said how the child died but said this is an ongoing criminal investigation. The child’s body was being examined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
On Thursday morning, Ahizya was reported missing. The massive search included police with bloodhounds going door to door along with volunteers who assisted.
During the investigation, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Child Protective Investigations Unit, which is contracted by the Department of Children and Families to conduct abuse, neglect and abandonment allegations, said that they have had prior contact with Ahizya.
The most recent incident occurred in February 2015 in which “the alleged perpetrator was unknown; however, it was suspected the abuse was occurring at the father’s residence.”
That case was closed because there were no indicators of physical injury to the child.MORE NEWS: Here's How Royal Caribbean Will Deal With Vaccinated, Unvaccinated Passengers
