Clock Ticking For Miami Building With Electrical Problems

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The landlord of a Miami apartment complex has until Friday to fix the building's electrical problems or the power will be shut off.

On Wednesday, residents of the building off northwest 62nd Street and 12th Avenue received a letter from Florida Power and Light advising them the electrical wiring is not safe. It also warns about power being cut off as early as Friday if repairs are not made.

A city inspector and electrician believe someone tampered with the electrical equipment.

"What can I do. I don't have money to just up and leave and you know I dont have it like that. I am on a fixed income. I get disability. This is what I can afford," said resident Jemeena Grimes.

CBS4 reached out to the people running the building but they had no comment.

This is not the first time the complex has had issues with the electricity. On February 20th, power had been restored following  a controversial firestorm that started when Grimes spoke out publicly, furious that someone had cut her power which she admits was not hooked up legally.

She blamed the property manager for it saying it was revenge for complaining about other issues in the building.
