Sunrise Man Accused Of Choking Wife During Fight

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Sunrise man was taken into custody after police say he tried to strangle his wife of 25 years.

David Gerhold, 50, got into an argument with his wife Sunday night after he said she was disrespectful to him, according to his arrest report. The argument then reportedly shifted to infidelity. Gerhold allegedly had an affair 14 years ago, but she only found out about it four years ago.

The verbal fight became physical, according to investigators, when Gerhold's wife said she wanted a divorce and he said he was leaving.

When the two began to argue again, Gerhold reportedly grabbed her around the neck and began choking her. As she struggled to breathe and break free, she demanded that he let her go to which he allegedly replied, "you're not going anywhere, I'm going to kill you."

The arrest report states that he continued to choke his wife as he backed her into a counter.  He then released her neck and grabbed her arm, according to the report.

She broke free and ran to a neighbor's house where she called police.

During questioning, Gerhold admitting to choking his wife during an argument, according to his arrest report.

He was arrested and charged with attempting/committing a felony which may have led to a death.
